For the Research Unit ‘Alpine Environment and Natural Hazards’ and the Climate Change, Extremes and Natural Hazards in Alpine Regions Research Centre CERC in Davos, we are offering a new tenure track position for a
Scientist in Extremes and Cascading impacts and risks 80-100% (f/m/d)
Climatic change and related extremes increase the probability for direct and long-term impacts on environmental systems and the society, and/or for triggering “cascading” or “compound” events. We are looking for an innovative and interdisciplinary-oriented scientist to advance our understanding of such impacts and risks, with focus on mass movements and/or alpine ecosystems. You will improve the linkage between climate and impact models and further develop comprehensive modeling schemes of cascading processes and their impacts. The gained expertise will contribute to the development of science-based adaptation and risk-reduction measures for the practice.
You hold a PhD in natural sciences within fields of climate and related impacts and proven expertise in handling climate model data. You bring an advanced understanding of physical processes in alpine mass movements and/or mountain/cold regions ecosystems. We expect you to develop an independent research agenda in the field of cascading/compound environmental risks. You are highly motivated, interdisciplinary-oriented, a great team player and eager to present your results in high level scientific journals and at conferences. Furthermore, you are skilled in communicating the scientific findings in plain language to practitioners.
Please send your complete application to Jasmine Zollinger, Human Resources SLF, by uploading the requested documents through our webpage. Applications via email will not be considered.
