The candidate will contribute to the visibility and strengthening of the position of the ESP in the national and international expertise with regard to Social Approaches and/or Health Promotion. The tasks of the post are divided, for about half of the time, to those related to teaching and for half to research. In addition, the candidate will also participate in various administrative responsibilities related to the ESP (juries, deliberations, recruitment commissions, faculty commission for doctorates...).
He/she will be able to develop a high level of productive research. These developments will be supported by partnerships with other ESP research centres, other faculties of health, but also with other national and international institutions.
Research areas:
An orientation in the field of Social Approaches to Health is desirable https://cvchercheurs.ulb.ac.be/Site/unite/ULB747.php). The complementarity with current research themes of the research center in Social Approaches to Health will be an asset. They may be the subject of research projects, led by the candidate, and subject to any call for credits or projects outside the University (FNRS, Regions, Europe, etc.). In this perspective, he/she will propose a research development plan in his/her application.
As an academic attached to this research center, he/she will be able to conduct research in Social Approaches and/or Health Promotion in an integrated way with those already conducted at the research renter in Social Approaches to Health or by the four other ESP research centers (https://esp.ulb.be/fr/la-recherche/les-centres-de-recherche), as well as with the other faculties of the Health Pole and the national and international partners of the ESP.
He/she will be required to supervise doctoral theses in Public Health oriented towards Social Approaches and/or Health Promotion, including by setting up co-promotions or co-supervision with other universities, and will be responsible for participating in thesis support committees.
As part of his/her participation in community services, he/she may, in addition to those that will be assumed within the ESP, contribute to activities related to the sector and professionals of Health Promotion in Belgium and abroad.
For all these activities, the incumbent will benefit from the support of the academic and scientific members of the research center, and the technical and administrative support of the ESP and the ULB Research Department and the Europe Unit in the preparation and conduct of his/her research projects.
Educational and scientific objectives:
The candidate will contribute to the teaching of the Master' s degree in Public Health Sciences (in French ; teaching focus « Politics, health systems and Health Promotion », https://esp.ulb.be/fr/les-etudes/masters) and those of Specialized Master in Public health methodology – MPHM (in English, organized in collaboration with the UCLouvain and UMons, https://esp.ulb.be/fr/les-etudes/english-teaching). He/she will also be able to support the development of "remote" training, particularly in the context of continuing education.
In these activities, he/she will provide students with methods that are consistent and in line with the qualitative and quantitative approaches used in Public Health. He/she will aim to develop their critical analysis on existing studies as well as on scientific publications. He/she will supervise final thesis (dissertations) and may welcome trainees in his/her research team.

The incumbent will be responsible for the activity of the assistants or student assistants related to his/her classes. In addition, he/she will be required to interact frequently with the teachers of the teaching units of which his/her courses are part, in order to ensure consistency of content. Finally, he/she will implement the assessment of learning according to modalities that he/she will define in line with his/her teaching (written exam, personal or group work, reflective evaluation, etc.). During the first year, the maximum teaching load will be 90 hours and will gradually increase to 120 hours after three years.
