Jyväskylä University School of Business and Economics (JSBE) is seeking to recruit a candidate for the position of
ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR (Tenure Track) in Strategy and Entrepreneurship,
starting at the latest on 1st August 2024 for a fixed term of 3-5 years. The position of an assistant professor is for a fixed term of three to five years, and the position of an associate professor is for a fixed term of five years (according to the tenure track model). At the conclusion of each fixed-term assignment, there will be an evaluation procedure to assess the employee's qualifications for promotion to the next level (associate/full professor).
The position will strengthen the strategy-aligned focus areas of JSBE in Competitiveness of Economy.
The Discipline of Strategy and Entrepreneurship is responsible for teaching strategy, entrepreneurship, technology and innovation management, and international business at the School of Business. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching and development of the Master's degree program in 'International Business and Entrepreneurship' (IBE) and in a new undergraduate Bachelor's program. Since its establishment in 2013, IBE has been the most popular international master's degree program at the University of Jyväskylä in terms of the number of applicants.
The discipline’s research focuses on the evolution of firms and industries, historical approaches to strategic management, growth entrepreneurship, technology and innovation management, and entrepreneurship education. Members of the research team publish their research primarily in peer-reviewed journals such as Academy of Management Review, Strategic Management Journal, Organization Science, Organization Studies, Research Policy, Academy of Management Discoveries, Business History, and Organizational Research Methods.
The responsibilities of the Assistant or Associate Professor primarily include research, teaching, guidance and development tasks related to strategy, entrepreneurship, international business or innovation management and, in particular, responsibility for the IBE Master’s degree program and the development of the Bachelor's program currently being established. We expect the Assistant or Associate Professor to conduct internationally high-quality research in one of the above areas. We are looking for a person whose research area is also linked to one or more of the strategy-aligned research priorities of the faculty (decision support economics and economic competitiveness, digital business and economy, and sustainable business and economy).
The teaching responsibilities of the Assistant or Associate Professor include lectures and other courses ranging from basic courses to postgraduate level. The tasks include advising students and supervising theses at the bachelor, master, and postgraduate levels. Additionally, the Assistant or Associate Professor will have an expert role in societal interaction. The Assistant or Associate Professor participates in managerial duties and administrative tasks, continuous development of education, acquisition of research funding, and demanding specialist tasks.
The qualification required for the position is a doctoral degree. We expect strong evidence in conducting and publishing scientific research, especially related to strategy, entrepreneurship, international business or innovation management. Evidence of research linked to one or more of the strategy-aligned research priorities of the faculty (decision support economics and economic competitiveness, digital business and economy, and sustainable business and economy) will be considered an advantage. To be successful in the position, the candidate is expected to have an excellent track record of independent and innovative research. We further expect strong evidence of teaching and supervision of theses, procuring research funding and of international networking. Excellent English language skills are required. Finnish language skills will be considered an advantage.

Please note that candidates for the position of the Assistant Professor must have completed a doctoral degree within the last nine years and have postdoctoral research experience in Finland and/or abroad. Special circumstances (e.g. maternity leave, paternity leave, parental leave and childcare leave, military service / non-military service, or long-term illness), extend the nine-year rule accordingly.

Salary
The initial annual salary will be approximately; Assistant Professor 50,000-59,000 EUR and Associate Professor 57,000-66,000 EUR (gross income, including a holiday bonus). The salary will be revised in accordance with the Collective Agreement of Finnish Universities. A trial period of six months will be used in the beginning of the employment.
