The group of Pavel Malý at Charles University in Prague invites applications for a postdoc in ultrafast spectroscopy.
Institute of Physics (IoP) of Charles University is a department of Faculty of Mathematics and Physics with interests ranging from biophysics to solid-state physics to theoretical physics. It has about 9 professors and graduates about 5 PhDs per year. Within the IoP, the group of Pavel Malý develops and applies novel methods of ultrafast spectroscopy to molecular samples. The postdoc position is focused on variants of fluorescence-detected ultrafast spectroscopy, their concepts, interpretation and applications to molecular samples. As a postdoc, you will contribute to the construction of single-molecule detection setup, interpretation of experimental data, as well as to the theoretical description, balanced according to personal preference and experience.
In the ultrafast spectroscopy group, we develop and use methods of ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy, coherently and fluorescence-detected, to interrogate excited state dynamics in complex molecular systems. In our laboratory, we have variants of fluorescence microscopy (lifetime imaging, TCSPC, confocal/wide field, …) combined with interferometric ultra-broadband excitation and fluorescence-detected transient absorption. We also study the single- and multi-excitation dynamics in nonlinear spectroscopy methods theoretically (Frenkel excitons, open quantum system dynamics, response functions), in collaboration with experimental groups worldwide.
As a postdoc, you will be fully integrated into the ultrafast spectroscopy group, guiding PhD students, and taking part in all aspects of the research.
Ph.D. degree or equivalent in relevant area. Experience with ultrafast spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy at experimental and basic theoretical level (experience with design and construction of experimental setups, measurement and with data processing and interpretation). It is expected that the applicant has publications in peer-reviewed journals. We expect capability of independent work, initiative in seeking out novel solutions, as well as the ability to work in a team.
We offer a 12-month post-doc position, with an expected extension for up to 3 years. Start date is July 2024 or negotiable. The position will remain open until the application deadline. We offer a well-equipped laboratory, opportunities to realize your own ideas, competitive salary, and inspiring environment. Charles University is an equal opportunity employer holding an HR excellence in research award. Prague is a historical city with a rich scientific and cultural life.
