Popular hockey personality Jeff Marek out at Sportsnet for undisclosed reasons

“Jeff Marek is no longer with Sportsnet,” a spokesperson told the Star in a short statement, adding that the company “cannot share details on individual employee matters.”

Marek had been absent — both in the studios and on his social media platforms — for nearly a month before rumours started circulating online this week about a possible breakup with Sportsnet.

The last time he made any public appearance in his work was on June 28, as a host during the NHL draft in Las Vegas.

He reposted a short video from Sportsnet that night in which he was interviewing Maple Leafs first-round draft pick Ben Danford. It was the last post he shared with his more than 242,000 followers on X until he resurfaced Friday to thank people for their “kind words.”

Marek, 55, has been a mainstay on Canadian hockey radio and TV shows. He has been with Sportsnet since 2011, where he hosted the network’s “Wednesday Night Hockey” TV show and co-hosted the “Marek vs. Wyshynski” podcast alongside Greg Wyshynski.

Most recently, he became even more popular among hockey fans while hosting the “32 Thoughts” podcast with Sportsnet colleague Elliotte Friedman. The duo took their popular show on the road two years ago and made stops in seven cities across the country.

Neither Marek nor Friedman responded to the Star’s requests for comment.
