While there were no reports of injuries, Toronto fire told the Star that between six and 10 people had been evacuated and Dundas Street between Augusta Avenue and Denison Avenue has been blocked off to pedestrians and vehicles.
“All utilities have been temporarily shut off and the road has been closed in the area, which we understand affects other buildings in the neighbourhood,” said Russell Baker a spokesperson for the City of Toronto.
“The city is now investigating and is taking steps to ensure the site is safe for the public,” Baker said.
Toronto fire said workers have determined the facade is compromised but it has not collapsed, and that Toronto Building has taken over the project as workers focus on a controlled remedy.
Police said that roads will be closed for the foreseeable future.
In a service alert posted on X, the TTC said the 505 streetcar that runs along Dundas Street has been detoured via McCaul, College and Bathurst streets.
