We know it’s tough to sort through the offerings on the 700,000 streaming services churning out content, so we’re bringing you a curated little list of what to watch. This week: Global All-Stars! Rory Scovel’s special! Chimp trouble!
1. Emily in Paris
After things with hunks Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) went haywire, Emily (Lily Collins) is trying to revel in her new-found singledom, but temptation always beckons. Get ready for some truly wild ’fits this season, including a baby-blue biker hat for Mindy Chen (Ashley Park) and a stunning black-and-white striped bodycon number donned by Emily for a masquerade ball. Stream it on Netflix.
2. Rick and Morty: The Anime
After “Rick and Morty” co-creator and star Justin Roiland was ousted from his own show, reviews for Season 7 — featuring new Rick and Morty voice actors — were decidedly mixed, but they’re still taking risks; now, the crew is trying anime on for size, with the second spinoff of the show. The voice actors from the Japanese dub of the original series star as the titular adventurers here, although there will be an English version as well. Stream it on StackTV.
3. Granite Harbour
Jamaican detective Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson) was eager to leave his hometown for something new but found a fresh start in Scotland was way harder than he thought. Thankfully, he managed to bond with his new department over a complicated oil-magnate murder investigation; now, the Major Investigations Team is working overtime to figure out who’s distributing a dangerous new drug and, hopefully, prevent an out-and-out drug war. 4. RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All-Stars
There have been whispers for many years about a rumoured global all-stars season and now it’s finally here. Get ready to cheer on an international cast of lauded queens, including our faves Alyssa Edwards (United States), Pythia (Canada), Soa de Muse (France), Athena Likis (Belgium), Kitty Scott-Claus (U.K.) and Kween Kong (Australia). Stream it Friday on Crave.
5. Side Hustlers
“Side Hustlers” must have pulled big numbers for the Roku Channel as it’s debuting a second season mere months after the first dropped. We’re happy to have it back so soon though, especially given Skims entrepreneur and co-host Emma Grede dropping pearls like “Your current plan is trash.” Products include a performance pet-care brand, plant-powered first aid, personal care stuff and alcohol-free drinks. Stream it Friday on the Roku Channel.
6. Rory Scovel: Religion, Sex, and a Few Things In Between
The laconic Rory Scovel tackles both the holy and the profane in his new standup special, produced by Conan O’Brien. Topics include the perils of painting God with abs, the oddity of Bible study, papal hats and the complexities of telling your kid about the afterlife. Stream it Friday on Crave.
7. Monty Don’s American Gardens
Mmmm, the idea of just, like, perusing beautiful gardens sounds so nice right now, doesn’t it? Join Monty Don of Gardeners’ World as he visits lovely places across the States, from the prairies all abloom and the redwoods of the West Coast to a New York community garden. Stream it Friday on BritBox.
8. Chimp Crazy
One of the stranger subsets of Americans are those who “adopt” chimpanzees and raise the apes as their children. Despite the fact that these arrangements often end up with the freakishly strong and understandably pissed apes ripping off their parents’ faces, appendages or genitals (seriously), some folks still persist in domesticating these critters. This docuseries from the “Tiger King” crew explores one such chimp parent and her dogged quest to maintain custody of her so-called son. Stream it Sunday at 10 p.m. on Crave.
9. Bel-Air
How’s this for manifesting? Filmmaker Morgan Cooper made a pretend trailer for a darker retelling of “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” that went so viral in 2019 Will Smith himself saw it and then helped Cooper turn it into an actual show. Now we’re on Season 3, with plenty of juicy drama still to come, including the debut of Will’s dad, played by Marlon Wayans, and the return of Joseph Marcell, a.k.a. Geoffrey from the OG show. Stream it on StackTV.
10. Terror Tuesday: Extreme
Thailand has a rich history of ghost stories, so it makes sense that the “Thai Terror Tuesday” radio show would be so popular. Now Netflix has taken eight of their real-life freaky stories and upped the horror factor to the max, complete with weird mannequins, malevolent spirits and — ugh — piles of wriggling eels. Stream it Tuesday on Netflix.
