Measles cases hold steady across Canada. Use our tool to check the spread
The Star has tracked 81 measles cases in Canada in 2024 — almost seven times the number recorded last year. The tracker is updated every second Friday.
Canada has seen a concerning rise in measles cases in 2024.
While Ontario hasn’t recorded any measles cases since the third week of June, the current provincial total is more than triple the number for all of last year. So far, the province has seen 24 measles cases, up from seven in 2023.
New Brunswick recorded its first measles case of the year in July. The travel-related case prompted health officials to issue an advisory about potential exposures in the Moncton area.
Quebec added at least two new measles cases to its total last month, according to Montreal Public Health. An outbreak earlier this year in Quebec led to 51 cases; officials declared an end to the outbreak on June 5.Â

In May, Ontario reported the first measles death since 1989. The child under the age of five was from Hamilton and was not vaccinated against the virus.Â
